Getting kids on the water for a family fun fishing trip is a great way to spend quality time on your vacation. It’s also a great way to teach them patience, determination, as well as constructive ways to have fun. When I teach our kids fishing clinics for the Youth Fishing Foundation I will tell the parents “if you hand a kid a fishing rod at age 5 you probably won’t have to take a can of spray paint away from him at 15.” It sounds funny but it worked for me. When I was a teenager I was always outdoors trying to catch the next big fish.

We offer a wide range of fishing opportunities for kids here in the Florida Keys. It all depends on the time of year and what the weather is doing but the most important thing is to make sure they are having fun catching as many fish as possible. Trophy hunting for big fish is probably not the best option unless he’s very experienced and has already caught everything else we have here in the Florida Keys. Our family fishing trips will depart from the middle Florida Keys are of Marathon. These trips can last either 4, 6, or 8 hours but 4 or 6 hour trips are highly recommended. Most children ages 8 and above can handle over 4 hours. Any child younger than 8 are usually maxed out at a 4 hour half day trip. We can customize a Marathon family fishing trip to meet your needs.

There are literally thousands of fishing spots here in the Florida Keys that hold a wide variety of fish that are perfect for kids fishing charters. During these trips we often catch 8 or more different species of fish. Some of these species include Mangrove Snapper, Mutton Snapper, Yellowtail Snapper, Lane Snapper, Grouper, Goliath Grouper, Cobia, Jacks, Snook, Redfish, Tarpon, and Sharks. We like using 10 lb. braided fishing line on light tackle spinning rods.
