Even though backcountry fishing and flats fishing are pretty much the same thing. We like to think of backcountry fishing as more of a Snook, Redfish, Tarpon, an Trout style of fishing. Targeting these back country fish can be done every month of the year here in Florida. Even by all types of fishing : light tackle spin and fly fishing. Captain Rich Smith has been backcountry fishing his entire life and really enjoys taking new clients to these remote waters. Fishing in the Florida Keys is great for everyone. From experts to beginners everyone can try this and come home with photos and stories to tell. The best part about it most of the time we never go in water too deep to stand in. Yes, that’s right most of the time in the backcountry the spots we actually fish are less than 6 feet of water. And don’t think you can’t catch a big fish here. Just this year we have landed several fish over 100 lbs. Not to mention the wildlife we encounter in the backcountry. Just about every day we see Alligators, Crocodiles, Manatees, and even Dolphins. The backcountry truely is South Florida’s secret fishing paradise. Backcountry Species: Snook, Redfish, Tarpon, Permit, Trout, Barracuda, Jacks, and several others. Backcountry Inshore Fishing Tackle: Light tackle spinning rods 10-50 lb braided lines. Fly fishing tackle is available but only if arranged before the charter because its a totally different style of fishing.
