The key to making your boat trailer last longer is keep it away from saltwater as much as possible. Now I know that’s impossible to do if you are like me and always launch your boat in saltwater. But one thing you can do is eliminate 50% of the time your trailer is in the water simply by not backing the trailer all the way into the water when launching your boat.
Notice my Ameratrail Trailer is equipped with a total of 4 carpeted bunks for the boat to rest on. This is one of the keys to allowing the boat to effortlessly slide off the trailer without having to float the boat off the trailer with water. All I do is spray each of the carpeted bunks with Silicone Spray Lubricant which you can find at any hardware store. Just an even coat will be suffice.
Any brand of Silicone Spray will do the job. Just remember to NOT unlatch your boat prior to backing your boat to the water. I have seen boats literally slide right off the back of their trailers while on level ground. Also remember that your boat will load onto the trailer much easier and faster so if you are like me and drive your boat onto the trailer make sure you don’t hit the gas too hard and drive into the back of your truck. Hope this little trick works for you and if you have any questions just send me an email.
