Marathon FL, Summertime Fishing Possibilities

(June – October) fishing is all about fishing deeper waters because the water temperatures are so high.  We often see water temperatures of 88 degrees offshore to over 92 degrees on the shallow water flats.  During our summer time fishing trips we recommend fishing offshore trips for Mahi Mahi and Tuna.  Most of these trips are on the larger 36′ boat because we fish anywhere from 6- 30 miles offshore to find the large schools of fish.  These offshore  trips are a minimum of 6 hours if not 8 so we are successful at catching fish.

Offshore Fishing Species Info:

Mahi Mahi AKA -Dorado or Dolphin fish.  Blackfin Tuna, Bonitas, and Jacks.

Offshore Techniques:

Sight fishing, trolling weedlines and structure. Find the birds you’ll find the fish.

Gear Used :

Light Tackle Spinning rods, Rigged Ballyhoo, Live Bait, Lures, Fly Fishing Flies

Summertime Reef Fishing for Mangrove Snapper is another option if you are only wanting a 4 or 6 hour fishing trip.  During the summer months of June – August large Schools of Mangrove Snapper can be found on the reef.

Gear Used : Light Tackle Spinning rods 10 – 20 lb line, live bait, cut bait

Bottom Fishing : Anchored on the reef, 20-60 ft of water, chumming.

Cook Your Catch!

Our boats are located in Marathon, Florida at the Island Fish Company Restaurant. You can step right off the boat and we will filet and bag the fish for you and they will cook it right inside.  They can prepare your catch several different ways. Fried, grilled, blackened, almondine, or francese are the most common.
