Snapper Fishing Florida Keys – Marathon, Florida

This year we have seen some spectacular snapper fishing on the reef, in the Gulf, as well as on the offshore wrecks. Our charter customers have been having a blast targeting these hard fighting fish on light tackle spinning outfits. They have been found in anywhere between 20-240 ft. of water depending on the time of year. Even though we have many different species of Snapper here in the Florida Keys the most common species we target are Mangrove Snapper, Mutton Snapper, and Yellowtail Snapper.

Most of the time we catch our Mangrove Snapper and Yellowtail Snapper on the oceanside reef about 5 miles off the coast of Marathon, FL. Occasionally, we will catch a large Mutton Snapper on the reef but usually those fish are found on the deeper ocean side wrecks in 150-250 ft of water. This one you see here was caught on a live pinfish in 240 ft of water using a Shimano Talica and a custom Randy Towe “Quit Yer Bitchin'” series rod. This fish is estimated to be 14 lbs.

The really cool part about Snapper fishing Florida Keys is that all ages can catch one. Here you can see a couple of young anglers with their trophy 15 lb. Mutton Snapper. It just takes a little skill, the right bait, and the right crew to put you on them. Here at Angling Adventures we’ve been guiding our customers to trophy fish for nearly 20 years now in the Florida Keys. We have patience with all ages and skill levels. We invite you to join us for a Snapper Fishing trip of a lifetime.
