Marathon, FL – Summertime Fishing Possibilities (June–October)

Summer in Marathon, Florida means hot weather, warm water, and incredible deep-water fishing opportunities. With offshore water temperatures reaching around 88°F and shallow flats often climbing above 92°F, the most productive trips during this season focus on deeper waters where the fish are active and feeding.

Offshore Fishing – Mahi Mahi, Tuna & More

From June through October, our top summertime recommendation is an offshore fishing trip targeting species like:

-Mahi Mahi (a.k.a. Dolphin Fish or Dorado)

-Blackfin Tuna

-Bonita

-Jacks

We fish anywhere from 6 to 30 miles offshore aboard our spacious 36’ boat, giving us the range and comfort to locate big schools of fish. These offshore trips are a minimum of 6 hours (often 8) to ensure the best chance for success.

Techniques We Use:

-Sight fishing along weedlines and floating debris

-Trolling ballyhoo, lures, and live bait

-Following diving birds to locate feeding fish

-Fly fishing for those who want the ultimate challenge

Gear: Light tackle spinning rods, rigged ballyhoo, live bait, lures, and flies.

Summertime Reef Fishing – Mangrove Snapper

If you’re looking for a shorter trip, reef fishing for Mangrove Snapper is an excellent option in the summer—especially June through August when large schools gather on the reef.

Trip Length: 4 or 6 hours

Depth: 20–60 ft of water

Techniques: Anchoring, chumming, and bottom fishing with live or cut bait

Gear: Light tackle spinning rods (10–20 lb line)

Cook Your Catch – Right at the Dock

Our boats are conveniently located at the Island Fish Company Restaurant & Marina in Marathon. After your trip, you can step right off the boat, have your catch filleted and bagged, and enjoy it cooked fresh by the restaurant’s chefs.

They’ll prepare it your way—fried, grilled, blackened, almondine, or francese—for the perfect ending to your Florida Keys fishing adventure.
