There are a lot of different lures on the market that will catch Barracuda’s here in the Florida Keys. By far my favorite fishing lure to use is the Rapala Subwalk. It’s perfectly weighted which allows anglers the ability to cast it farther than most comparable lures. It also has a sub-surface walk the dog action that seems to drive Barracuda’s crazy.

The Rapala Subwalk is best matched up with a 3500-4500 series light tackle spinning rod rigged with 10-15 lb. Sufix Performance Braid fishing line. Because braided lines are less than half the diameter of traditional monofilament lines there is less wind resistance during casting. This allows anglers to be able to cast farther and work a much larger area when fishing. The end result is simply catch more fish.

Fishing in Marathon for Barracuda's

Fishing in Marathon for Barracuda’s

Fishing for Barracuda’s in the Florida Keys can be productive all year long. Usually we fish for them on the points and edges of the flats where there seems to be the most current. These predators patiently wait for schools of bait fish to be washed across the the flats. When they least expect it the Barracuda attacks with violent force ripping through its prey. I’ll often suggest to my anglers to try to imitate a wounded fish. Barracuda’s just can’t resist an easy meal.
