Carter’s Fishing In Marathon Together

The 2015 New Year was kicked off with bang. I was stoked to have the Carter family come back and fish with me for the 3rd time. On this occasion Teri and Joe decided to bring the whole family down to the Florida Keys for a 3 day fishing charter. They decided to stay at Hawk’s Cay Resort on Duck Key because it had everything they were looking for and it’s located just a few minutes from our dock in Marathon.

Because there were 7 of them we decided to split everyone up between two boats and fish near each other so we still felt like we were all together. On the first day the second boat was Captain Jeff Rella which is one of the best offshore charter boat Capt.’s in the area. The wind was howling but it didn’t matter because the fish were chomping. We had the Sharks chummed up right behind the boats and everyone was able to land several Sharks up to 7 feet long. It was a great 6 hour trip and everyone went home with sore arms.

The gals got into the action by helping filet the large Barracuda they used to chum up the Sharks. Within just a few minutes of placing this Barracuda in the water on a stringer we had dozens of large Sharks ready to eat right behind the boat. All we had to do was toss a little piece of Barracuda in front of one of them and it was On Like Donkey Kong!!!

On the second day we decided to try for some more glamor flat fishing species like Tarpon, Snook, and Redfish. Right off the bat Jessi was able to hook and land not only one but two Tarpon right in front of her husband and father. It really was a special moment to watch her fight and land her first ever Silver King. These fish probably jumped over a dozen times each. The 10 lb. light tackle spinning rod was really put to the test but she got it done!
