Another Great Marathon Fishing Excursion With Repeats
I always love having these guys come down from Miami to fish with me. Over the last several years we’ve had some great times in the Everglades as well as the Florida Keys. This time we decided to try our luck at some Marathon area Gulf Wreck fishing. The weather was almost slick calm so we took my 23′ center console and ventured over 20 miles north of Marathon to hit some hidden wrecks for Grouper, Redfish, and Snapper. We knew immediately that the bite was on because the first fish of the day was this monster Redfish.
After releasing the over slot Redfish we started banging out fish one right after another. Mangrove Snapper, Yellowtail Snapper, Hogfish, Jacks, and Grouper were all eager to eat our live baits. These wrecks we were fishing have very little pressure from other fisherman so the fish have a tendency to be dumber than usual. So catching lots of fish like this is a pretty common occurrence. We just need calm enough weather to get there.
John posing with another small Grouper he caught using a Rapala X-Rap because the fish were chummed up behind the boat. We also were able to hookup and catch some monster 100+ lb. Goliath Groupers. These fish are always on these wrecks. Some view them as a menace because they are so common but we still think they are a whole lot of fun to catch. If you’d like to book a Marathon Fishing gulf wreck trip just give me a shout. Thanks guys for another great trip and I’ll be seeing you again for Tarpon Season in a few months.
